Why Concert Dates Get Postponed and What Ticket Holders Can Do

Morrissey, the former frontman of The Smiths, has built a long solo career since the band split in 1987, and his tours have drawn devoted crowds across the United States, including in Texas cities such as San Antonio. He has also become known for cancelling or postponing shows, sometimes at short notice. Reasons given over the years have included illness, scheduling problems and production issues. For fans who have already bought tickets and arranged travel, a postponement can be frustrating, so it helps to know how these situations usually work.

What a postponement usually means

A postponed show is different from a cancelled one. With a postponement, the promoter normally intends to reschedule, and existing tickets are often honoured for the new date. With a cancellation, refunds are typically issued through the original point of purchase. Policies vary between venues and ticketing companies, so the official announcement from the artist, venue or ticket seller is always the place to check first.

Practical steps for fans

  • Keep your original ticket and confirmation email. These are usually needed for refunds or for entry to a rescheduled show.
  • Watch official channels. The venue's website and the ticket seller send updates before social media rumours settle.
  • Check refund windows. Some sellers allow refunds for a postponed date only within a set period after the announcement.
  • Think about travel bookings. Flexible hotel rates and refundable transport reduce the risk if a date moves.
  • Be wary of resale offers. After a postponement, unofficial resale markets can become confusing, so buy only from authorised sellers.

The wider picture

Touring is complicated: a single date depends on the artist's health, crew availability, equipment transport and the venue's own calendar. When one piece falls through, the whole show can shift. For long-time listeners of The Smiths and Morrissey's solo records, the songs remain available whatever happens to a tour schedule, and a rescheduled night can still be worth the wait.
